Yakubu Gowon Advises Nigerian Politicians

Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, (Retd) has urged Politicians in the country to behave  in the right way so as not to put the country’s reputation at risk.

Gowon made this call on Tuesday at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Leadership newspapers
He advised the politicians that rather than condemn themselves and trade words that they should embrace prayers which will bring about unity rather than portraying to the world we are not good enough and no credible can be produced.

Gowon also went on to advise the politicians to focus more on policies and not individuals, in the course of their campaign.

“When we complain about people calling us all sort of  names, where do you think they get it? They get it from us, either from our magazines, or from our newspapers and some times, some of our public speeches.
“What is important is that let all of us love Nigeria,  that you have no doubt about it. Honestly, unless you love and accept your country as a nation, then whatever you do is not worth it and that is what I am going to ask all Nigerians, all political parties to do.”
General Yakubu Dan-Yumma Gowon born 19 October 1934 ruled Nigeria from 1966 – 1975 as the head of state under the military regime.
