Soldiers Shoot Selves, Fake Illness To Avoid Fighting Terrorists
Some Nigerian soldiers have reportedly resorted to injuring
themselves and pretending to be ill in a bid to avoid being deployed to
Borno and other communities where war is being waged against Boko Haram
In a desperate bid to avoid being deployed to the troubled North-East, Nigerian soldiers are now inflicting harm on themselves, reports say.
Seven soldiers are said to have shot themselves at the weekend claiming that they had been attacked by Boko Haram terrorists but a medical examination in an Adamawa hospital showed that their injuries were self-inflicted.
Other soldiers also pretended to have various strange ailments in a bid to avoid being sent to war, Tribune reports.
Some of those involved have been arrested while a board of inquiry has reportedly been set up to investigate the allegations.
In a related development, an
army Colonel and some soldiers under his command are facing charges for
running away from Boko Haram terrorists and allegedly setting some army
vehicles ablaze.
