Court Sentence Man For Stealing Pot Of Soup
A 28- year-old man identified as Abiodun Ojedokun, was on
Monday sentenced to six days of community service by a Somolu
Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for stealing a large pot of soup, NAN
reports.
The accused was arraigned on a three count- charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing before Magistrate, Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi.
ASP Akinlabi Adegoke, the police prosecutor told the court that Ojedokun, whose address is unknown, on September 20 at 2.00am at the Onipanu Model Market in Somolu, Lagos State, connived with some others, now at large and broke into one Mrs. Gbadamosi Sanni’s shop.
The prosecutor said the accused broke the locks and stole the woman’s large pot of soup, valued at N8, 000.
Adegoke informed the court that the offences were contrary to Sections 285, 308 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Ojedokun pleaded guilty to all the charges preferred against him and asked the court for leniency, claiming that he committed the offence because he was starving.
Delivering her judgment, Magistrate Osunsanmi, sentenced the accused to 48 hours of community service for each of the three-count charge, after he had pleaded guilty to them.
“Based on the facts of this case before this court, the confirmed report and your plea of leniency, I hereby sentence you to 48 hours community service on each of the counts of the charge,” the Magistrate said.
