1 university turns 2 ...as gov Yero flaunts Kaduna WAEC
Yero says he has already begun the conversion process by setting up a
technical committee, chaired by Professor A. Rasheed, Vice Chancellor of
the Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
The Kafanchan Campus of the Kaduna State University (KASU) is set to become a full-fledged University of Technology, according to the state governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero.
Yero,
who made the revelation while speaking at a campaign rally on
Wednesday, said he has already begun the conversion process by setting
up a technical committee, chaired by Professor A. Rasheed, Vice Chancellor of the Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
"We
have decided to upgrade the Kafanchan Campus to an autonomous
university so that we can build more faculties in Kafanchan and KASU in
Kaduna," Yero said.
The governor said he initiated the plan so as to give Kaduna indigenes an improved chance for tertiary education.
"This will create more opportunities for our students,” he added.
The governor also hailed the performance of Kaduna students in the 2014 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
"Last
year, Kaduna state came best in the North and third overall in the
country in WAEC result. That has increased the number of candidates
seeking admission into the university," Yero added.
He urged the people of the state to vote all candidates of the PDP in Kaduna state and across the country.
Yero
became governor of Kaduna on December 16, 2012, after the demise of the
incumbent, late Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, in an air crash.
He is seeking re-election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
