The graduates were awarded Bachelor degrees at an elaborate ceremony
which took place at the Margaret Ekpo Convocation Arena of the
institution's Nsukka campus.
No fewer than 14,015 new graduates have emerged at the 44th convocation ceremony of the University of Nigeria (UNN) held last Friday.
The graduates were awarded Bachelor degrees at an elaborate ceremony which took place at the Margaret Ekpo Convocation Arena of the institution's Nsukka campus.
The
graduates will now join the teeming Nigerian youths scouring the
streets of Nigeria in search of the dream careers which led them into
the walls of the university in the first place.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Benjamin Ozumba, captured the scenario in his address, aptly describing the number of graduates as an "avalanche", as quoted in a Tribune report.
“As
an important part of its mission, the University of Nigeria is
graduating an avalanche of candidates who have worked very hard to
change their status, thereby deserving the degree of this institution," Ozumba said.
Professor
Ozumba revealed that, out of the 14,015 first degree graduates, made
up 85 graduated with First Class honors; 3,717 had Second Class honors
Upper Division; 7,275 earned Second Class honors Lower Division; a
further 2,294 third class honors while 227 were in the Pass category.
The alarmingly high rate of unemployment in Nigeria is no more news.
What is news however is that universities, like UNN, are churning out more graduates in their thousands every year.
This may seem like progress, but the sheer number of yearly graduate output, never minding the quality, is cause for concern.
"The number is quite unprecedented," Ozumba said of his 14,015 graduates.
If
the graduates must find their feet, then they must heed the words of
their colleague, the Overall Best Graduating Student of the
institution, Nkiruka Ozioma Ibeanu.
Nkiruka, who graduated with an impressive 4.88 CGPA, told her colleagues to be ready for the journey ahead.
“As
you enter the next phase of your life, expect challenges to come.
Although challenges are inevitable, you must not compromise your values
in order to fit the expectations of the world," she said.
Indeed, they must be ready, especially as Nigeria heads to the polls and a possible change in government.

Trust Whan'ada, she redefines hotness with her slim, fit figure, ironing-board abs, curvy derriere, long legs and large enough boobs.
She
wore only a pair of black thigh-high boots in some photos, lacy bra is
others, a wet t-shirt in a couple and a great amount of baby oil that
left her glowing.
It would be safe to say the shoot is nothing but a very sexy sex-tease.

Yero says he has already begun the conversion process by setting up a
technical committee, chaired by Professor A. Rasheed, Vice Chancellor of
the Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
The Kafanchan Campus of the Kaduna State University (KASU) is set to become a full-fledged University of Technology, according to the state governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero.
Yero,
who made the revelation while speaking at a campaign rally on
Wednesday, said he has already begun the conversion process by setting
up a technical committee, chaired by Professor A. Rasheed, Vice Chancellor of the Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
"We
have decided to upgrade the Kafanchan Campus to an autonomous
university so that we can build more faculties in Kafanchan and KASU in
Kaduna," Yero said.
The governor said he initiated the plan so as to give Kaduna indigenes an improved chance for tertiary education.
"This will create more opportunities for our students,” he added.
The governor also hailed the performance of Kaduna students in the 2014 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
"Last
year, Kaduna state came best in the North and third overall in the
country in WAEC result. That has increased the number of candidates
seeking admission into the university," Yero added.
He urged the people of the state to vote all candidates of the PDP in Kaduna state and across the country.
Yero
became governor of Kaduna on December 16, 2012, after the demise of the
incumbent, late Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, in an air crash.
He is seeking re-election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Pulse Vip Blogger Spycystar gets a break when she lands her first voice-over opening.
I got to Beat FM.
The security guy would not let me go in to see the Head of Programs.
Instead, he himself goes in, comes back and asks me for my CV. I opened
my bag, brought out one of my cds and a copy of my CV and gave him.
He
takes them in and while he’s not around, I put a call to the front desk
(you remember I had the number from when they called me). When the lady
picked up, I introduced myself, told her I was in the premises and
wanted to see the Head of Programs.
She tells me I
could, but I’ll have to wait for a while since the HOP was in a
meeting. I replied and said I could wait. So now, the security guy comes
back and says I could leave since he’d dropped my package with the
‘main guy’ and I replied: ‘Oh! Great! Thanks. But I called the front
desk and was advised to wait if I want to see the main guy since he is
in a meeting’ and the security guy was like: ‘Seriously? In a meeting?
Someone I just saw? Ok,’ and at this point, I didn’t know who to believe
because, seriously let’s face it, we know how these people at the
security posts and the front desks can be.
So the
fact that their stories were not aligning and none was getting me in to
see the HOP right at that moment, told me one thing: I may not get to
see the Head of Programs that day but all the same, I got myself ready
for a long wait and waited. I mean what else can I do? Remember I know
no one to call.
I had waited for quite a while
when the security guy put a call to the front desk via the intercom and
told me it was the same story. He went further to tell me that I could
go and they would get back to me since they had my detail as he had
given my package to the ‘main guy’.
I felt
slightly embarrassed but I replied: ‘So there’s no way I can see him
today?’ and he replies: ‘Truthfully everybody is so busy today’. I felt
so sad but I wanted some sort of reaffirmation so I asked: ‘I will be
contacted when needed though, right?’ Gosh! Like the poor guy could do
anything about that…*sighs*. All the same, he politely responds: ‘Yes’
and I left.
I may be feeling sad but I wasn’t
ready to be done for that day, so I found my way to Amazing Grace Plaza
(where Inspiration FM is located).
I got to the
front desk, asked to see the Head of Programs and was told he was done
with his show for the day and had left but I could get him if I came
back the next day before 11am.
I was leaving the
building when I heard a deep sexy voice right behind me: ‘And what is
she doing here?’ From that question, I could tell the person knows me
and that voice, I could never miss it – Raymond Ayuba; ( the same
Raymond Ayuba of RayPower. We had worked a while together at Cool FM,
Port Harcourt, too. May his soul rest in peace). I turned around and
voila! I fled into his arms and deep within me, I felt a bit relieved
running into a close friend of mine. I was so happy see him.
Raymond
had been a friend even before I got my first gig as a radio host. He
helped me realise I could do the job, that I had it in me. He gave me
recordings of Ryan Seacrest on radio, to listen to. He was instrumental
in having me auditioned and getting the gig with Cool FM.
When
I started, there were days I would not be happy for one reason or the
other and Raymond Ayuba always found a way to cheer me up. He would
literally lift me up, throw me up and down (yea I’m light weight like
that). He’d make sure I had a smile before he’d let go of me. He was one
of my mentors (I had a bunch of mentors at Cool FM). He didn’t stay too
long at Cool, though. He left long before I did but we had kept in
touch through phone calls and text messages but not enough and I missed
him so much.
Anyways, I told him I was here
looking to get a gig with Inspiration FM, but didn’t meet the guy I was
supposed to see. He took me back in and on our way upstairs, he told me
he just got back from Kaduna and was also looking for an opening, too.
We were upstairs to see a friend of his who worked with the station and
could know if there were really any openings. We chatted with the guy
and he assured us that there weren’t any.
On our
way out, I brought him up to speed with what has been going on in my
life and told him I intend to also wanted to try my voice for voice
overs, not just radio hosting and he asked me to hold while he puts a
call to someone. When he got off the phone, he smiled and asked: ‘How
about I take you right away to a buddy of mine who can help?’ Gosh! I
couldn’t contain myself. I leapt with joy and screamed ‘I’m game!!!’ and
we headed out.
Raymond’s friend has a studio
somewhere in Ikeja, so we hit the road on what seemed like a really long
ride to Ikeja. Getting to the friend’s office, we realized he was not
in the office, Raymond called again and shortly, he appeared. I guess he
was somewhere very close. Anyways, we got introduced, he gave me a
script, got me in the recording booth. I did my thing, while he recorded
me and was really impressed with what he heard - or at least, that’s
what he said - and that was how I met Moshood.
We
exchanged numbers and he promised to start hooking me up with voice-over
gigs. Now at least, I know that besides my radio job, which I’m gonna
nail pretty soon, I’ll have another source of income…yippiee!
The
opportunities in Lasgiddy, baaaabyyy!!! On another note, though, this
was something to smile about today! All glory to God, my back-bone
always pulling me up whenever I think I am down. Alleluyah!!!

'Character and not a privileged background determines success' - Eku Edewor

For Eku Edewor, success is beyond having an influential last name. It's
hard work, character and a great deal of passion for what you do.
It's great to come from a background of wealth
and privilege, but at the end of the day, it doesn't necessarily
guarantee success.
This was the sentiment of Studio 53 Extra host, Eku Edewor when she was asked if her influential last name paved any way for her. Eku, who was a guest at Pulse acknowledged that while she came from an influential background, character and hard work was what got her to where she is today.
"I
get that when you get into the competitive market you have to use
everything to your advantage. I'm happy that I had parents that wanted
me to go to the best educational institutions but at the end of the day,
I worked very hard. I got straight A's and got a second class upper
degree. So I think that's the element people always forget. It's not
only privilege that determines your success, it character. You have to
work hard at what you do."
So folks, do you agree
with Eku? Do you think that success has more to do with character and
hard work than coming from a privileged background? Share your thoughts

Mugworth V-Steam: You sit on what is essentially a mini-throne, and a
combination of infrared and mugwort steam cleanses your uterus, et al," the actress said in goop's enlightening review of Tikkun Spa.
"It is an energetic release—not just a steam douche—that balances female hormone levels," the blonde actress added.
Meanwhile, Dr. Jen Gunter, a board certified OB/GYN and expert in vulvovaginal disorders, tells People, she would not recommend the treatment.
"Steam is probably not good for your vagina. Herbal steam is no better and quite possibly worse," Dr. Gunter warns.
"Mugwort
or wormwood or whatever when steamed, either vaginally or on the vulva,
can’t possibly balance any reproductive hormones, regulate your
menstrual cycle, treat depression, or cure infertility."
In 2013, Chris Martin's ex wife told Chelsea Handler's
'Chelsea Lately' that powerful women should give frequent blow jobs to
their men to prevent fights and make men feel more secure.
Now she's all about steaming your private part? Damn!

This was revealed by the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC
Presidential Campaign Organisation, Garba Shehu, via a press statement
released on Thursday January 29, in Abuja.
APC presidential aspirant, Muhammadu Buhari (AP)
The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari will not be participating in the upcoming presidential debate organized by the Broadcast Organization of Nigeria (BON).
This was revealed by the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Garba Shehu, via a press statement released on Thursday January 29, in Abuja.
The statement reads:
“A
salutary inspection of the composition of NEGD brings into focus the
Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), National Television
Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the
Africa Independent Television (AIT, owned by a PDP chieftain).”
“And
going by the avalanche of inflammatory statements, misinformation and
blatant lies being propagated by some of these media against our Party
and candidates contrary to the Koffi Annan brokered Abuja Peace Accord,
and the failure of these aggressors to desist and apologise, have left
the APC Campaign with no option than to steer clear of any premeditated
smear campaign that could be inimical to our prospective electoral
success.”
“The APC is a party of
progressive intellectuals, genuine technocrats, successful businessmen
and women, and most of all eminent and courteous people of honour who
would never condescend to the level of sadistic gutter propaganda, all
in the name of political exigency and crass opportunism.”
“Aside,
elements close to sitting President Goodluck Jonathan have commissioned
series of derogatory and death threat advertorials against the person,
family and associates of the opposition leader, General Muhammadu
Buhari, to which the APC had sent letters of complaint to the Inspector
General of Police, the Director General of State Security, Advertisers
Practitioners of Nigeria (APCON), Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) and the erring media that published or aired such
offensive adverts or documentaries.”
“None
of our letters of protest has been attended to by the authorities. So
whatever the incumbent President wants to do with the instrument of
state to harass members of the opposition into humiliating submission
would not work. The APC/Buhari campaign is now a people’s movement. The
more they try to rubbish it, the more popular we are with the populace.”
“We
are not shadow-chasers or moonwalkers. The APC is concerned mainly with
the lack of unity and security in Nigeria; plus the growing decimation
of lives, property and territory of our great country due to preventable
insurgency; the slumbering economy; decaying educational system;
absence of jobs; poor public health; and the cancerous
institutionalization of corruption in our national life. You can’t fool
the people all the time. Nigerians will vote out their oppressors come
February 14.”

A Texas police officer has been suspended for handcuffing a female suspect and sexually abusing her in his official squad car.
An American police officer, Jackie Len Neal, has
been suspended as he stands trial for allegedly sexually assaulting a
19-year-old woman in the back of his patrol car, according to police
reports.
The 40-year-old officer from San Antonio,
USA, was said to have arrested the young woman for traffic violation,
handcuffed her and sexually assaulted her. Before then, the erring
officer who is said to have committed similar offenses in the past,
craftily turned out the cameras on board his squad car.
Though
Neal said that the accusations are false and an attempt to destroy his
name, the police are sure he was the one who committed the act.
"The sexual assault that led to the arrest took place on the south side, after Neal pulled over a 19-year-old woman.
Neal was in uniform, in a marked patrol car, and on duty when the sexual assault occurred."
Neal was charged with felony sexual assault, and was released on bail on Monday.
Another
woman made a similar complaint about Neal a few years ago, but she
refused to testify against him in court. The department is reaching out
to her again.

'As Stars, I think we're supposed to be worshiped, not worshiping
others' - Saidi Balogun speaks on entertainers and politics, and on
piracy being the cause of poverty in the industry.
Popular Yoruba actor, Saidi Balogun says most entertainers run after politicians because of poverty.
The actor made the above statement in a recent interview with Encomium magazine.
According to Saidi, celebrities should be worshiped and not worshiping politicians; I think we're supposed to be worshiped, not worshiping others. Even if a governor holds your hand, he's supposed to be happy".
Saidi also blamed the poverty in the industry on piracy;
"(Poverty),
that's why you see some of our people running helter-skelter,
campaigning for all these politicians. But there's one question we have
all not asked, and that's what makes American artists donate to
politicians while the actors here in Nigeria are asking from
politicians. "
"Every member of the
National Assembly has not made an reasonable law on piracy which has
devoured the industry. So, there's poverty in the industry."
"If
there's not, you won't see our people flocking around all these
politicians, campaigning, singing and dancing for them. I saw a
candidate being surrounded by some of our colleagues; I now said to
myself, 'if this man eventually wins, how many actors or musicians will
he remember? "
"Although some are doing
it to make ends meet. And it's sad because we're stars. I think we're
supposed to be worshiped, not worshiping others. Even if a governor
holds your hand, he's supposed to be happy. But now, the reverse is the
case".

Fans of Nollywood actor turned politician, Desmond Elliot, are not happy
with him as he seems to have lost their respect over a photo he
displayed.
Nollywood actor turned politician,
Desmond Olusola Elliot, has incurred the wrath of his fans and lovers
who now see him as having left the toga of a gentleman and is living a
carefree life just because he is playing with the politicians.
This
new assumption of a man that has been shown so much love came when he
posted a photo of himself on the social media during an All Progressive
Congress campaign tour, displaying alcoholic drinks beside another
chieftain of the party, a member of the House of Representatives.
His
fans did not like the picture Elliot cut and some registered thier
disdain at the display, while others said they have lost every respect
they had for him.
One very bitter fan called his
action 'gutterish' while others say that joining politics has turned his
head from being a role model to the youths, saying his actions does not
teach any moral to those who look up to him.
Desmond Elliot,
a frontline actor in Nigeria, is now a full time politician having won
the APC primary ticket to represent Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos
State House of Assembly in the forthcoming elections.
