The manager of a bar located in the Akoka area of
Ibafo, a suburb of Ogun State, Bidemi Shittu, has been declared wanted
by the Ogun State Police Command, for allegedly setting his attendant,
Ezekiel Emmanuel, a 13-year-old boy, ablaze over a missing N1,500.
According
to reports, Shittu, a husband and father, was the manager of the bar
called Golden Fingers Bar in the area and on Sunday, February 8, 2015,
had accused Emmanuel of stealing the money and in a bid to get the boy
to confess to the crime, had allegedly tied the teenager's hands and feet and locked him up in a room in the bar till the following day.
At about 11.30pm the next day, Shittu brought Emmanuel out to the front of the bar, poured petrol on the boy and set fire on him.
But
for the intervention of some residents who went to his rescue, the boy
could have been burnt to death. He was rushed to about four hospitals
but was rejected before he was referred to the Lagos State University
Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Ikeja, Lagos, the following day.
Before the police got to the bar, Shittu had fled the area while the police locked up the facility.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident.
"The
suspect poured petrol on the boy for stealing. He maltreated him, tied
his hands and feet, and set him on fire. The boy is still in the
hospital and the suspect is presently at large.
But the police will arrest the suspect.
This act is not only criminal, but also barbaric. We are intensifying efforts to get him and we will."
