The Niger State Government has declared a two-day holiday in the state to enable residents collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC).
The
government announced that Thursday, February 5 and Friday, 6 will be
work-free days to allow for ease of collection of PVCs from the
requisite authorities.
The public holiday was announced on Tuesday, February 3, by Israel Ebije, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Mu’azu Aliyu.
Ebije
said that the state government had decided to declare the holiday in a
bid to ensure that nobody was disenfranchised due to f failure to
collect PVCs.
“Your PVCs are not just ordinary
cards; they are a veritable tool which you would use to elect your
preferred candidates in the coming elections and many more elections to
come. It is therefore instructive for every eligible voter to collect
voter card,” Ebije said in a statement.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for PVC collection to February 8.
