A food seller in Anambra State has been accused
of selling human meat from his brother’s corpse after the decomposed
body was found in her house after two years.
The accusations came after Ngozi Aloefuna, was discovered to be in custody of the remains of her brother who died of mental illness about two years ago.
The decomposed body of her late brother, Stephen Aloefuna, an ex-Enugu Rangers International Club player, was hidden by Nzozi Aloefuna for two years, in their family.
The body of Stephen Aloefuna was already decomposed to skeleton when it was found.
The decomposed body was discovered after Ngozi’s brother demanded that he be shown where Stephen was buried.
After a lot of pressing, Ngozi Aloefuna led him to where Stephen’s two-year-old corpse was hidden.
Residents
of Amikwo Village, in Awka South Local Government Area of the state who
were shocked by the discovery, accused Ngozi Aloefuna, who is a popular
food seller in Eke-Awka market, of selling body parts of her late
brother as meat to the public.
According to Daily Sun, angry
neighbours bounced on Ngozi, demanding answers as to why she hid her
brother’s corpse for two years which she failed to provide.
Speaking
with the newspaper, Ngozi denied the accusations and explained the
circumstances behind her keeping the corpse for two years.
“I
am innocent. I did not kill my brother. Everybody knew he had a mental
problem and was seriously sick before he died. Before he died, I was the
only person that was taking care of him for years and nobody asked me
how he was faring until he died. They said I killed him and used his
body to prepare the food that I sell but only God knows the truth. I
leave it for God to judge,” Ngozi said.
She
further explained that According to the report, she was there for her
brother Stephen all through his illness and tried all she could do for
him to recover from his sickness.
When her efforts
failed and Stephen died, she revealed that she called one of their
brothers and reported the death. But the family member he informed told
her not to disturb her him again. For the two years that Stephen’s
corpse was hidden in the family home, the family couldn’t arrange a
proper burial for him.
“I decided to cover him
till he comes back because only I cannot bury him. After two years of
his death, some of our family members came and asked of him and I told
them he is dead and they said I should show them his grave. I opened his
room and showed them where he died. Then I was arrested and taken to
the police station,” she explained.
According to the daily newspaper, a family member also confirmed Ngozi’s story.
Stephen’s corpse has finally been buried by the family members.
Ngozi was detained and interrogated for some days by the police before she was granted jail.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Uche Eze, also confirmed the incident and said that investigations were ongoing.
