Nigeria Elections 2015 INEC: declares Taraba, Abia governorship polls inconclusive

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the governorship elections in Taraba and Abia State inconclusive.

The declarations were made on Monday, April 13, by the INEC returning officers for the both states.

The Returning officer for Taraba State, Mohammed Kyari stated that the declaration was necessary due to the fact that the number of cancelled votes was more than the difference between the votes gathered by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Aisha Alhassan who came second and Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who was in the lead.

Before the declaration, Alhassan won 262, 381 votes while Ishaku had 326, 198 votes.

Elections were cancelled in the Donga Local Government Area of the state and in six poling units in Takum,  and five in other local government areas.

Earlier reports had it that Ms Alhassan was in the lead and could emerge winner making her Nigeria's first elected female governor.

Meanwhile in Abia State, the returning officer, Professor Benjamin Ozumba declared the state governorship election inconclusive because no clear winner had emerged between the two major candidates; Okeize Ikpeazu of the PDP and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Alex Otti.
