Authorities at Ridge Hospital in Accra are
expected to dialogue with nurses and midwives at the health facility to
call off their strike.
The health workers began the strike on Tuesday, which has caused the shutdown of the Out Patients Department (OPD).
The
nurses and midwives numbering over 500 are protesting unpaid salaries
for the month of March due to mishaps they claim have been created by
the Controller and Accountant General’s Department.
President of the Ghana Registered Nurses Association, Kwaku Asante-Krobea, who was expected to be in the meeting, said he is confident the dialogue with the aggrieved health workers will be fruitful.
He
revealed that, Ridge Hospital management had earlier asked the nurses
to take overdrafts from their banks but they refused because management
was not willing to pay the commission on the overdraft they will take.
As at Tuesday patients who went to the hospital to seek medical care were advised to go to other health facilities.
