Residents of Abule-Nla road in Iponri area of Lagos were held to ransom in the evening of Tuesday, April 14, 2015, as rival gangs clashed, attacking themselves with dangerous weapons and in the end, a middle-aged man identified as Jogi, was hacked to death.
It was gathered that one of the rival gang made away with the corpse of the murdered man, who was said to belong to another faction at Ilogbo in the Ebute Meta area, to affirm its supremacy.
Eyewitnesses
disclosed that the two factions of the hoodlums came face to face at
the railway crossing at about 5 pm where they attacked one another.
By
the time the police from the Iponri Police Division and the Area C
Police Command, Surulere, came to the area, the hoodlums had
disappeared.
A resident narrated the event:
"The
hoodlums fought one another on Tuesday at about 5 pm. There was
commotion in this area. The deceased was particularly targeted. They cut
him with cutlasses and also escaped with his corpse.
Olaleye
Street is another violence-prone area. The thugs continue to regroup
and attack other groups. They go as far as Oyingbo, Fadeyi, Ilogbo and
old Apapa Road to attack whoever is their target."
But a police source said that one of the suspected killers has been arrested.
"The
Iponri division has picked up one of them. We are on the lookout for
the others. The hoodlums have fled the area at the moment.
It is when they observe that the hunt for them has subsided that they will return for fresh violence. That is their culture."
