Adamawa Election: Jibrilla To Face Fintiri
About one month remains till the start of before-term
governorship elections in the troubled Adamawa State. As usual the
attention will be focused on the flag bearers of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The major
political parties decided on their candidates over the weekend, issued
congratulatory statements to them and even exchanged blows.
According to the chairman of the election team, Talba Abari, who announced the results at the party’s secretariat, a serving Senator, Bindo Jibrilla won APC primaries. He polled 2,718 votes, which is more than 2,268 votes of Ibrahim Mijinyawa.
Boss Mustapha, who came third, polled 515 votes, while Ahmed Barata, also a serving Senator representing Adamawa South, got 452 votes. Two more contenders, Yakubu Tsalla and Emmanuel Bello, got 147 and 50 votes respectively.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who voted in Jada Ward 1 in Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa, hailed free and fair APC primaries. The politician congratulated Jibrilla on his success in the primaries of the “truly democratic party”.
However, the Peoples Democratic Party definitely does not agree with this definition and will not be in position to lose the upcoming elections.
In one of its latest statements, signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, on September 6, 2014, Saturday, the PDP urged Nigerians to stop following the opposition due to its “growing anti-democratic behaviour”.
The statement described APC leaders as “incurable despots who have since instituted a reign of impunity characterized by brazen dictatorship, imposition and victimization within the APC”.
