WTA Bad Gastein: Andrea Petkovic through to semi-finals on home soil
Home favourite Andrea Petkovic eased into the semi-finals of the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies after defeating Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland 6-3 6-2.
The fourth-seeded German, who won
this event back in 2009, broke her opponent no fewer than eight times on
her way to a one-sided victory.
She needed less than an
hour of court time to book her place in the last four, although it
actually took a good deal longer than that as the match was interrupted
by rain for three and a half hours with the score at 1-1 in the second
set.
Petkovic, who reached the semi-finals at the French Open earlier this season, will now face America’s Grace Min on Saturday.
The
20-year-old from Atlanta progressed to her first WTA semi-final after a
comprehensive 6-2 6-1 victory over Karolina Pliskova of the Czech
Republic.
