Igbos In Lagos Honour Doar Akunyili
Igbos in Lagos will shut down their businesses for four hours in honour of the late Prof Dora Akunyili.
This was disclosed in Lagos on Tuesday, August 26, by Nze Basil
Osuokwu, national coordinator of South East Ndigbo Lagos, at a
dinner/interactive session for market leaders and stakeholders, Igbo, on
the platform of Ndigboamaka, a non-governmental organisation of South
East Ndigbo Lagos.
According to him, it was a unanimous agreement by the market leaders
and stakeholders that they would close down their businesses from
8am-12noon today, as a mark of honour for Akunyili and also to show that
they and Igbo, in general, recognised the invaluable achievements of
the late professor.
Expressing joy over Dora’s achievement as director general of the
National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and
minister of information, Basil said the Igbos were truly proud of Dora
while also calling on other Nigerians in public service to emulate her
honesty, dedication, hard work and integrity, Daily Sun reports.
He explained that the fact that Akunyili staked her life in the
service of Nigeria showed the Igbo spirit of putting everything in what
