JUST IN: NFF To Renew Keshi's Contract
Contrary to earlier speculations, the Nigeria Football
Federation, NFF, has said it is ready to renew the contract of Nigeria’s
senior football team coach, Stephen Keshi.
Shortly after Nigeria’s Super Eagles were ousted from the 2014 FIFA
World Cup held in Brazil, there were reports that Keshi would not renew
his contract with the NFF.
It was stated that the former Mali and Togo coach would dump Nigeria for the vacant South African coaching job.

However, in a communique released on Thursday, 24 July, 2014 and
signed by Chairman of NFF Communique drafting Committee, Emeka Inyama
after the NFF Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, the federation said
it was still interested in working with the Coach.
"The Executive Committee mandated the Technical Sub-Committee to
open channels of communication with Mr. Stephen Keshi with a view to
extending his contract, as the NFF is still interested in working with
him," Inyama reportedly said.
It was gathered that the Technical Sub-Committee is mandated to report back to the Executive Committee within one week.

Keshi led the Super Eagles to victory in last year’s Africa Cup of
Nations and also took the team to the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup
in Brazil.
The Committee also resolved that: "Henceforth, all financial
issues with players and officials must be thoroughly deliberated upon
and agreed ahead of major matches and competitions, to avoid the kind of
embarrassment brought upon the nation at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals
in Brazil, when players boycotted training sessions before the Round of
16 match with France."
Meanwhile,
the emergency committee also mandated the NFF Management to proceed
with discussions with a number of African countries with a view to the
Super Eagles playing a friendly match on the FIFA window of Wednesday,
13th August, 2014, as part of preparations for the 2015 Africa Cup of
Nations qualifying matches.
