Speaking yesterday before the United States Congress at the hearing
aimed at discussing Boko Haram threat mostly affecting Nigeria’s north,
the official explained that foreign media exaggerate the real problem
and treat the Nigerian authorities unfairly in connection with this.
Adefuye was quoted saying by Leadership:
"All the reports from the foreign media are very untrue and
unfair to the Nigerian government, and, for this reason, I challenge
everybody here to go to Nigeria and you will discover that the situation
is not as bad as portrayed by the international media organizations.
The Chibok girls are there and we have located where they are, and we
shall get them out very soon."
The ambassador blasted western media over calling the whole Nigeria
"unsafe" when there are "only three states out of the 36" are being
attacked by the dreaded sect.
Adefuye also revealed that most of the suspected suicide bombers arrested in the country were not Nigerians.
It would be recalled that several bloody attacks have rocked Nigeria
in the last months. The recent attack launched in Maiduguri, Borno
State, reportedly left at least 18 people dead and scores injured.
A week before that bloodshed another explosion rocked the country capital Abuja with at least 21 casualties.
Meanwhile about a month ago the National Assembly approved the extension of emergency rule in the 3 states mostly affected by insurgency: Plateau, Yobe and Adamawa. It was first declared in May 2013 with the aim to protect the residents from terrorists.
However, the opponents of the move have been claiming that the
presence of military has brought no safety adding that since the
emergency rule introduction the north has has faced the direst attacks
in its history.
