An explosion has rocked the Kasuwan Kuturu market in Mubi area of Adamawa State, on Wednesday, June 25.
The state Commissioner of Police, John Abakasanga, confirmed the
incident, saying that an Improvised Explosives Device (IED) was thrown
at a police patrol team went off at Kasuwan Kuturu market along Ahmadu
Bello Way.
According to DailyTrust reporters, who gathered the
information from the residents, a woman died of shock, while at least
two men sustained burns and other injuries in the result of the blast.
They were taken to the General Hospital Mubi for treatment.
An eye
witness, who introduced himself as Abubakar Garba, narrated that the
terrorist attack caused stampede in the town. The residents feared for
their safety.
“It was a bomb that detonated in the market today, few people were injured and a woman died. Kasuwan Kuturu market is the most populated market in Mubi and today is the market day”, he said.
These words were backed by another resident of Mubi, who identified himself as Baba. He said: “And
you know today is market day with beehives of activities that normally
cause crowd from the market to spiral up to the main road resulting in
grid lock along Ahmadu Bello way.”
The Police Public
Relations Officer of the Adamawa State Command DSP Abubaker Othman said
the blast was caused by a roadside bomb, and there was no casualty
recorded in the incident.
The affected area had been cordoned off
for proper investigation and possible arrest. Apart from the affected
area there were peace and quite in other parts of the town with people
engaged in their usual activities.
The Mubi explosion follows similar bombings in Kano, Borno, Yobe, Benue and other states all happening in the last month, killing scores of people.
