Cameroon Security Forces Kill 10 Boko Haram Terrorist
No fewer than 10 suspected Boko Haram insurgents were killed
by Cameroon security forces in three clashes in the north of the country
near its border with Nigeria.
This was disclosed by a senior military official on Thursday, Reuters Africa reports.
According to a regional military commander, Colonel Felix Nji
Formekong, six of the insurgents were killed by the Cameroon defense
forces in the village of Wambache on Tuesday, June 24.
Two others were killed in a separate clash on the same day, while
another two were killed on Sunday after a suspected Boko Haram convoy
attacked a Cameroon army patrol in another village.
Boko Haram has been waging war in Nigeria, especially the northern
part, where they have killed many and destroyed villages, leaving many
homeless. Very recently, they started attacking the neighbouring country
of Cameroon.
It would be recalled that the head of counter-terrorism in Nigeria
had said Cameroon was the weakest link in the regional fight against
Boko Haram.
However, the Cameroon authorities disclosed that they had deployed troops numbering about 3,000 to the far northern region of the country
bordering Nigeria in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents, following
pressure from Nigeria for not doing enough to curb the terrorists, who
are suspected to be using Cameroon as a base.
On June 1, Cameroon’s armed forces had killed at least 40 Boko Haram fighters in the North-western part of the country.
