Moyes Confirms United Has Made a Second Offer For Fabregas.

Manchester United have returned with an improved offer for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas
United made an opening bid of £25m last week Monday and have increased that to £30m plus add-ons as confirmed by manager David Moyes.“My understanding is that Ed’s (Woodward) had a response and he spoke with them,” Moyes said on United’s bid for Fabregas at a news conference in Yokohama.
“I think we made a second offer but Ed is dealing with that personally, rather than me.”
Chief executive Ed Woodward left United’s pre-season tour ahead of schedule last Wednesday to return to Europe to attend to urgent transfer business, which majorly concerns the club’s summer recruitment.
David Moyes has stated that signing a midfielder is his priority ahead of the new season, although Barcelona has remained unwavering on their position that Fabregas is not for sale.
Moyes added: “When you’re interested in good players you want to give every opportunity to materialise and I’ll do that.
“I hope things can continue and move forward. At this moment in time I can only tell you that Ed Woodward is working hard trying to make the deals happen. We can only hope that some of them fall into place shortly.”
Barcelona vice president Josep Maria Bartomeu was quoted by Spanish daily Sport on Friday: “Barcelona can assure you we will not entertain any offer for Cesc. It is totally ruled out, he’s not for sale.”

Premier League - Paper Round: The price at which United will sell Rooney

The price of Wayne Rooney's expected move to Chelsea is almost agreed with Manchester United; Newcastle are set to sign two more French stars; Manchester City are to snap up a Real Madrid defender; Arsenal are still hoping to sign Gonzalo Higuain - here are the main transfer stories from today's papers.
Rooney's price tag all but agreed: A fee of £30 million will clinch the 'deal of the summer', according to the Daily Mirror, which reports that Manchester United will agree to sell Wayne Rooney to Chelsea. But, crucially perhaps (or not), the sensational transfer will not go through in time for the forward to make what would have been a dramatic return to Old Trafford in a blue shirt on August 26.
"The Stamford Bridge club will table a second bid of £24 million this week and feel they can get their man for around the £30m mark – despite Manchester United’s insistence the England man is not for sale," the paper reports.
"While Chelsea feel the champions have no option but to sell before the transfer window shuts on September 2, they are willing to have to wait until the final days to get their man.
"The Blues are resigned to not landing Rooney in time for him to return to Old Trafford in a Blues shirt on August 26. If the Reds are successful in their ongoing quest to land Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona, Chelsea expect United will be able to ‘sell’ his arrival as an ‘upgrade’ to justify the departure of Rooney to SW6."
Paper round's view: It's realistic now. As much as it now appears very likely that the deal will go through, there is no sign that it will be done at all quickly. While the fee remains guesswork from every paper at the moment, £30m is the most consistent figure doing the rounds. As for Rooney not moving in time for the two teams' clash on August 26 – well, that suits just about everyone involved in the deal and will only help it to go through.

Nigerian clubs score 146 goals in two games

Four clubs have been suspended on suspicion of match-fixing after two games finished 79-0 & 67-0
Four lower league clubs have been banned in Nigeria for alleged corruption, after two decisive domestic games ended 79-0 and 67-0 respectively.
Plateau United Feeders and Police Machine FC were both overwhelming victors in the last round of league fixtures, as the promotion rivals competed to achieve the higher goal difference needed for securing a place in the Nationwide League Division.
According to BBC Sport, Feeders scored 72 of their goals in the second half, while Police Machine netted 61 times after the break - once it had become clear that the clubs could only be separated by their goal differences over the course of the entire season.
Both teams are banned "indefinitely" from Nigerian football, along with their respective opponents Akurba FC and Bubayaro FC, for their part in the combined 146-goal routs.
Muke Umeh, the chairman of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) Organising Comittee, is quoted as saying: "It is unacceptable - a scandal of huge proportions. We will investigate the matter thoroughly and get to the bottom of it," the official added.
Meanwhile, the NFF's director of competitions, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, added: "The teams involved, their players and officials, match officials, coordinator and anyone found to have played some role in this despicable matter would be severely dealt with."
One cannot help but feel sorry for the losing fans, in what could only have been a match worthy of school playground football.
